Lessons learnt from the Corona Crisis

Over the last few weeks as businesses have tried to adapt to the new reality of working remotely and both rapidly increasing and decreasing staff businesses have realised how inflexible their traditional phone systems are.
Here are a few of the problems we have come across and how a hosted VoIP telephone system can help today and mitigate issues in the future.
Remote Working
Many offices are used to their staff turning up at 9am, sitting at their desk and picking up a phone. Usually with a telephone system hosted in the office with a few remote working connections into the phone system from outside using their standard broadband connection.
However during the crisis where possible the majority of staff are working from home, on a traditional telephone system it isn’t as easy to pick up a telephone and plug it in at home and instantly be connected and remote working solutions are stretched as all your staff try to connect to the office server on their regular broadband connection, leaving their staff to work from mobile phones.
A hosted VoIP telephone system would have resolved this, allowing staff to simply take home their desk phones, plugin and continue working.
Scalability
Some businesses have had to dramatically scale their businesses overnight, either due to furloughing their staff or in the case of banks having to dramatically ramp up their call handling capabilities. On traditional phone systems this may mean additional licensing, phone system hardware or phone line capacity.
A hosted VoIP telephone system would have resolved this, allowing businesses to simply add or remove the required hosted seats for their specific situation.
Contracts
Some businesses who have closed during the crisis have found themselves locked into costly monthly contracts, paying for lines/hardware and call bundles that simply aren’t required at this time but are stuck in 12-36 month contracts.
During this crisis when your business has no income, mitigating costs where possible is essential.
A hosted VoIP telephone system would have resolved this, offering rolling monthly pay as you go contracts offering you the flexibility to flex with your business needs.
